The BJP strategically used the Ram Temple issue to unite Hindus under a common cause, framing it as a matter of faith and cultural identity. This helped the party garner support from various sections of the Hindu population. n 1990, BJP leader L.K. Advani led a Rath Yatra (chariot procession) across the country to garner support for the construction of the Ram Temple.

The yatra was accompanied by widespread communal tensions and played a crucial role in mobilizing public sentiment in favor of the temple. On December 6, 1992, a large mob, including BJP supporters, demolished the Babri Masjid. The event led to nationwide riots and further polarized communities along religious lines.

The party gained significant electoral success in subsequent years, with its leaders often emphasizing their commitment to building the Ram Temple. In 2019, the Supreme Court of India finally resolved the dispute by awarding the disputed land to Hindus for the construction of a Ram Temple. The court also allocated an alternate piece of land to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque.
