The Carolina Hurricanes enter this years post season with more pressure than ever before. After last seasons agonizing playoff defeat, a 4-0 sweep to the Florida Panthers in the conference finals in which every game was decided by just a singular goal, the canes look poised to take the next step and and win the most prestigious trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup, a feat they haven’t been able to achieve since 2006.

This season feels a little different than years past though. With multiple players on expiring deals at the end of this season, unfortunately the club is bound to lose a few key players in free agency. Canes GM Don Waddell moved all his chips forward and proved to the fanbase that he’s not afraid to make big moves at the deadline with the acquisition of Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov; a deadline eerily similar to the Mark Recchi and Doug Weight acquisitions during the 2006 trade deadline, a season where i’d say things went pretty well..
