Spring Awakening is a unique musical. Although other rock musicals with strong messages had been created before it, its focus on teenagers and their growing pains brought it to the forefront in the mid-00's. Credited for bring Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and several others to the mainstream, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's musical has since been revived multiple times and is still quite relevant.
