SWFL Eagles Nest-Napping time for E23. What a little, beautiful, adorable Eaglet. What a big eaglet that she/he has reached the rails of the nest.
Notice the backing facing tongue barb (there are two on both sides of the tongue), but here you just see one. The hole in the back of the throat is called the glottis. The glottis is the entrance to the larynx and trachea, which is known as as the windpipe. The glottis closes, during swallowing. This helps prevent from choking, when swallowing large pieces of food.
The tongue barb are also called “rear directed papillae” an aid in the pushing back of food, in the process of swallowing.
