BIS Standards Clubs Mentors Training Programme – “Nurturing Young Minds”
18th and 19th of April 2024
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), The National Standards body of India (under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Govt of India) established under the BIS Act 2016 for the Formulation of Indian Standards and Conformity Assessment, Hallmarking, Testing and related activities to ensure harmonious development of the activities of standardization.
Bureau of Indian Standards, Bangalore organised, Two-day Residential Mentors Training Programme, of BIS Standards Clubs at RG Royal Hotel, Yesvanthpur on 18th and 19th of April 2024. 65 mentors of Standards club of schools and colleges from various districts of Karnataka attended the programme. The objective of this programme “ Nurturing the young minds with Standardization ”. Teachers play an important role in achieving the objective as they serve as beacons of light, guiding and motivating students (future endeavours) to channelize their creativity and enhance their scientific temperament.
Shri Vijayaveeran K, Director and Head, Bangalore Branch Office welcomed the delegates, Resource Support Team members and the teacher mentors. He inaugurated the programme. He interacted with the mentors and quoted that-Mentors are the one who can make the difference by helping children understand the necessity to ensure quality in their daily life.
Ms. Nagamani T , Director and Head Bangalore Branch Laboratory presented Special address to the mentors and told about the importance of Exposure visits for the Student members of the Standards Club. She also mentioned that Bangalore Branch Laboratory opens it’s doors for the exposure visits and allow the student members to gain a good knowledge about the BIS testings, and Conformity Assessment.
Shri . USP Yadav, Deputy Director General (South), BIS graced the programme by his presence and embraced the audience by his presence. He explained about the Standards, Importance of Standards, Process of Standardization. He mentioned that there is no life without standards. He motivated the attendees to be Interactive and grab as much information they can. He encouraged the compassionate mentors to show the right path of standardization to their student members.
Shri U T Yadav, Executive Secretary, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology graced the event as Guest of Honour and motivated the gathering by explaining about the various schemes by the Karnataka government on the grounds of Cyber security, Defence sector etc. He explained about the 49 years of contribution of KRSTC in the state and talked about the support of KRSTC in various enrichment programmes.
The conclave gathered a participation of 65 mentors from all over Karnataka.
The technical sessions focusing on the Concept of Quality and Standardization, Structure of Standards were carried out by Shri K Rajasekhar, Scientist-D/Joint Director , BNBO. The topic of BIS website, portals and BIS Care app, Role of Academia, were carried forward by Shri. S. D Selvan, RST member, BIS Bangalore , and Shri Mohan Kumar, RST member BIS Bangalore. They also explained them about the roles and responsibilities of the mentor. Over 10000 standards club have been created throughout the country to develop awareness about the young generation and a quality ecosystem in the country. The mentors were benefitted by the learnings and shared views in the programme and certificates were presented to them. The participants praised and appreciated the initiatives taken by BIS and shared wonderful feedbacks with us in form of poems, quotations, slogans and speech. The programme concluded with a pledge of- contributing enthusiastically in the mission for quality standardization through the activities of standards clubs.
