Many children can display spontaneous speech as well as a non-vocal form of communication, while children on the autism spectrum seem to have a delay with them and need intervention to catch up with their peers. Moreover, having a lack of functional language or behaviour can be a major stressor for parents when they are unable to understand their child’s needs.
