This animated video gives a perspective on the impacts of childhood trauma. The video shows impacts on the learning brain and the survival brain. This is one way to assist community members to understand the impacts of trauma on children and into adulthood. It also helps parents and teachers to talk about trauma with students. We thank Dr Ham for allowing us to put an Australian focus on his ideas.

This video was produced by the WA Centre for Rural Health with support from the City of Greater Geraldton, Rio Tinto, Healthway and The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.

The video is freely available to anyone who wishes to use it for education purposes.

Praise for the video:

“I can’t recommend this short clip too highly. It is a clear critical representation of the ways in which different early traumas can affect a child’s ability to learn. Importantly it also explores what we can all do to change things.”
