Dear beloved Christ The King OCDS community,
Today, as we gathered together in Carmelite Chapel, we stand as a beacon of love and remembrance for a cherished soul who has left an indelible mark on our hearts. With heavy yet grateful hearts, we come together to celebrate the life and honor the legacy of our dear Fr. Aloysius Deeney, OCD, who departed from this world on March 14, 2024, in Indonesia.

Fr. Aloysius, a luminary in the realm of Carmelite spirituality, was a guiding light for countless souls around the globe. Born on September 2, 1948, in Philadelphia, USA, his journey was one of profound dedication and unwavering faith. His pilgrimage led him to Avila, Spain, where he immersed himself in the profound teachings of Carmel.

Ordained in 1974, Fr. Aloysius embodied the very essence of Carmelite devotion. His visionary leadership and warmest in friendship endeared him to the hearts of all who crossed his path. As the first General Delegate of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites and the East Asia and Oceania Region, his influence resonated far beyond borders, shaping communities and nurturing souls.

Fr. Aloysius' unwavering commitment to his calling knew no bounds. His journey led him to the serene heights of St Yosef Carmelite Monastery in Bogenga -Bajawa, Ngada-Flores in Indonesia, where he found solace and serenity amongst the Carmelite brethren. It is there, amidst the gentle embrace of the monastery, that he chose to bid farewell to this earthly realm.

On March 18, 2024, our beloved shepherd was laid to rest in the sacred grounds of his beloved St Yosef Carmelite Monastery in Bajawa. Today, as we gather to honor his memory, let us bow our heads in gratitude for the gift of his presence in our lives. Though he may have departed from our midst, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and the hearts he inspired.

As we offer our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul, let us take solace in the knowledge that Fr. Aloysius now rests in the embrace of our Heavenly Father. May the perpetual light of God shine upon him, illuminating his path to eternal peace and joy.

In his memory, let us continue to walk the path of faith and love, knowing that he walks with us still, guiding us with his gentle wisdom and boundless grace.

Rest in peace, dear Fr. Aloysius, and know that you are dearly missed, yet eternally cherished.
Amen.
