I’m John, an adventure writer at dumbestdnd.com and today we’re looking at Arms of Hadar, a 1st level spell from the school of conjuration in DnD 5e. Available to warlocks and roughly the same grouping as Armor of Agathys (full video for that spell, Arms of Hadar lets you deal damage and prevent reactions in a 10-foot radius. With upcasting and a couple of d6s, it might be a good option for your warlock build.

But first, who the heck is Hadar? Those goolocks out there probably know about Hadar already, but he is one of the great old ones, a dying star, desperately holding onto life. A majority of the information on Hadar comes from 4th edition which also had Brood of Hadar and the Herald of Hadar, the Herald of course being an avatar of the dying great old one, Hadar. The text for the Herald in 4e even says “Hadar now hangs on the edge of annihilation. A herald of Hadar is an avatar of Hadar’s dying gasps, a fiendish monster that grows stronger in the presence of living creatures.” We’ll dive a bit deeper on Hadar as we go, but thought it was some helpful background before we examined the rules as written. Hat tip to redditor cunninglinguist81 for doing some of this digging six years ago. There’s also Hunger of Hadar and the Eldritch Invocation Grasp of Hadar, so all in, this old one definitely gets some love in the DnD world.

Trying somethign a little different and not showing the text. Let me know if you prefer the slideout like in previous spell explainers!
