The village of Eski Balıklıova in the Urla district of Izmir, the pearl of the Aegean, had its population greatly reduced due to the earthquake and economic crisis in the 1960s. Many villagers living in this abandoned Aegean village migrated to cities in search of a better life. Those who remained had to leave the village. Today, Eski Balıklıova village appears as a ghost village with its houses, school and cemetery. The old Balıklıova village is a forgotten corner of the Aegean, a place where life once teemed and now silence reigns. The village is located in a bay adjacent to Lesbos Island, between the Karaburun peninsula and the Urla peninsula. Balıklıova village was a village where Greeks and Turks lived together until 100 years ago. With the exchange in 1924, Greeks settled in Greece and Turks settled in what is now New Balıklıova. The village was a village that made a living from fishing, olive growing and agriculture. In the 1960s and 1970s, many villagers migrated to big cities such as Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara in search of a better life. Those who remained had to leave the village. Balıklıova village is known as a ghost village today. There are very few people living in the village. The village attracts the attention of tourists and travelers.
