➡️ In the earliest days of YouTube, before I even listened to metal, I came across a Cannibal Corpse music video and remember seeing the fastest bass playing I had ever seen from Alex Webster. I had never seen anything like it - the grinding tone, the INTENSE looking technique, and it sort of showed me what metal bass playing could be all about. In this video, I listen to "Kufra at Dusk" by Conquering Dystopia for the first time, and hone in on Alex's chops of steel. I talk about his unique wrist angle when playing faster passages, that unmistakeable Spector tone (LOADED with growl), his choice of plucking patterns for the 3-finger technique, his usage of dual-hand muting between both the fretting hand and plucking hand, and some of my personal tips on how to learn the three finger technique for metal bass playing.
