For the past few weeks, Big and Lil have been nearly inseparable while observing during my morning visits. When one takes flight, the other usually follows. Sometimes they play musical branches and other times they play catch me if you can in flight climbing higher in the sky to catch the thermals, sometimes soaring with the turkey vultures.
Recently, sibling rivalry has been observed and looks more volatile than it really is. This is natural survival behavior and expression as they prepare for their eventual dispersal independently in the great big wild world. Survival skills are crucial as they learn to find food, keep the it and fend off other eagles and animals who want what they have.
In this video, it also shows how the fledglings are still currently challenged when food is delivered to the nest. Maintaining their emotional control when food is around still needs much honing so they become confident and competent getting and keeping it.
Big is 116 days old. Lil is 115 days old.
Big fledged 1 month/30 days ago at 86 days old, the earliest fledge at this nest!
