A late March weekend was my best opportunity to see the super bloom in the California desert before it was gone. I've never seen it before. Once, I was in Death Valley weeks after the peak, and it wasn't the same.
It was tiresome as I spent much of the time driving. I tried to fit in both Carrizo Plain which is midway between San Francisco and LA, and Anza-Borrego farther south and east of San Diego.
But it was totally worth it and memorable. The wildflowers were gorgeous. And I got almost all kinds of weather - warmth, cold, sunny, rain downpours, snowfall, hale. The car rocked at night as the winds howled in the desert.
