The public dress rehearsal for the stage play "GeGeGe no Kitaro" was held on the 28th at Meijiza theater in Hamacho, Tokyo.

"GeGeGe no Kitaro", which began serialization in 1965 in the "Weekly Shonen Magazine," is a timeless masterpiece that has been loved by many people for over half a century, spanning manga, anime, films, novels, dramas, and games. Many of the yokai (supernatural creatures) featured are traditional figures from Japanese folklore. The author Shigeru Mizuki gave them new interpretations and design arrangements which led to wide recognition of these creatures and had a significant influence on Japan's yokai traditions.

In the summer of 2022, to commemorate the centennial of Shigeru Mizuki's birth, "Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro" was brought to life on stage at Tokyo's Meijiza Theater. This stage version unfolds a bizarre and mysterious story featuring Kitaro and various yokai characters.

With an impressive cast including Yoshihiko Aramaki as Kitaro; Sumire Uesaka as Nekomusume (Cat Girl); Takashi Fujii as Nezumi Otoko (Rat Man); Yuko Asano as Sunakake Baba (Sand-throwing Hag); Hiroki Nanami as Amanojaku-Lynn; Yudai Tachibana as Villager Takeru; and Taro Yabe as Konaki Jijii (Child-crying Old Man), performances will run from July 29th to August 15th.
