The title of Rajinikanth's film Coolie was announced on the evening of 22nd April. This film, being made under the direction of Lokesh Kanagaraj, was earlier being made with the name of Thalaivar 171. According to media reports, he wanted to sign a Hindi superstar for a role in the film. Although this role was not big. Lokesh had approached Shahrukh Khan for this role. But Shahrukh refused.
