After confidently predicting victory in the first phase of polls in Assam’s five indigenous-heavy constituencies, the BJP now confronts a significant presence of Bangladesh-origin Muslim migrant voters in the upcoming second phase on April 26.
Barring the tribal-reserved Diphu seat, Karimganj’s Muslim population is more than 60%, followed by over 51% in Nagaon, over 40% in Silchar and over 30% in Darrang-Udalguri.
