In this video essay, I explore the symbolism of zoos and the related general theme of barriers and boundaries in Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi and Ang Lee's film adaptation. In my analysis I present two basic angles from which to approach the story's intertwining symbols: a psychological interpretation and a broader, cosmic interpretation related to the story's treatment of religion.
