Supporting one of Noel’s biggest influences in Neil Young, Oasis play Molson Park in Barrie taking a one gig break from their tour with the Manics and the Screaming Trees. The band played in Auburn Hills the previous day with Liam back in tow with the rest of the group, but this is the first recorded gig of the leg with him back. As such, the set is changed a bit to bring it back to a more complete set, with Supersonic as always, It’s Getting Better Man swapping with My Big Mouth as the “new song”, Live Forever and Champagne Supernova swap places, and I Am The Walrus brought back as the final song in the set. The only difference to all the other shows is Cast No Shadow isn’t played in the acoustic set. This is probably more down to the fact it’s a support slot so they keep their runtime down as much as they can. Of course, having Liam back on these gigs can be great but don’t get too excited just yet.

His performances through this leg are very inconsistent, as despite coming over and doing the gigs, he did confess that he never wanted to come back to the States following Knebworth anyways. To be honest, this is a fair point. After playing the most in-demand concert of all time after a lengthy 14-month tour, I think anyone would want to take a breather, and most people would say that Oasis could’ve and more than likely should’ve done exactly that. But that didn’t happen. On the flipside, What’s The Story was still a massive album which by late 1996 potentially still hadn’t ran it’s course. As such the tour continued, and Liam would show up to several gigs drunk, apparently including his first show back at Auburn Hills. Liam’s antics aside, tonight’s performance is thankfully great despite having to dodge many bottles in doing so. The band put on a tight performance throughout and though Noel isn’t fleshing out as much as later gigs, he still does well in his playing tonight.
