HIYA! Here is a live performance of the song "SADNESS" by Japanese visual kei rock band MALICE MIZER, taken from the "SHOCK AGE" event, on 27 March, 1993, which was broadcasted on TV. It also contains the song 前兆 (Zenchou) as a little bonus at the end, and after that, there's a small talk / interview. Both the video and the audio have undergone significant restoration and remastering.

This footage was believed to be lost for a very long time, but the YouTuber "KMRV Shoegazer" uploaded the full TV broadcast on YouTube. I assume he has a TV-Recording VHS of the event. You can see the full event here:    • Shock Age 前夜祭 (19930327_日仏会館

But this original upload is in a stretched aspect ratio, and with bad sound that is very silent, and full of noise. It was a long process to restore the audio and video of this live, and make the best quality video possible.
I'm finally happy with the result.

This song, SADNESS, is one of my absolute favourite MALICE MIZER songs. It's so extremely unique in sound, and the emotions are very powerful. The music and vocals really express heavy suffering and despair as music.

I think Tetsu's vocals are great here. They convey so much emotions, his range is very wide, and his voice remains powerful, even in high notes.

Sadly, this song only released on a few extremely rare demo tapes, it never got a proper studio album or single release. It's a shame, this would have been so great on memoire.

Some of the chords in this song resemble French singer Mylène Farmer's song "Ainsi soit je", which is not surprising since this singer was one of the biggest musical and visual influences of MALICE MIZER.

Fun fact: If you look up Mylène Farmer at the "NRJ Music Awards 2000" on Google Images, you'll see how her hairstyle is just like Tetsu here lol.

Another fun fact: The unique intro of this performance of "SADNESS", is actually the chord progression of "Portugal", which would later become its own unique song.

Yet another one: The "Zenchou" / "前兆" song really dates as far back as 1993, and originally had vocals, as you can hear here. But only in 1996 it would get a proper release, in the "Voyage sans retour" album. But that version is instrumental: Piano, guitars, bass, drums, but no vocals.

It's too bad it's so hard to see Mana, Közi and Kami clearly during this live, since the stage is very dark.

About the demo tapes, be careful when you see one of these for sale, since much more fakes / bootlegs exist than real ones, and these fakes can also cost hundreds.

At the time of this live, GAZ (drums) had just left MALICE MIZER, and Kami wasn't yet an official member, so that's why I credited him as the support drummer.

On a final note, I'd like to point out that I think Yu~ki's bass playing is very impressive here.
