Since 1971, marijuana has been classified as a Schedule I drug, defined as a drug with no accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Other drugs in this category are heroin, methamphetamines, and LSD.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is expected to reclassify marijuana from the most strict Schedule I to the less stringent Schedule III. This is the first time the U.S. government is acknowledging its potential medical benefits.

Dr. Chanda Macias, the Founder of the National Holistic Healing Center spoke with Roland Martin about this historic move.
