Houstonian Kechi Okwuchi sings “Hallelujah” in tribute to those who lost their lives to Covid-19 during Discovery Green Conservancy’s virtual Gala on the Green presented by H-E-B.

Okwuchi is accompanied by an original arrangement composed and performed by Kinder HSPVA Jazz student Ian Dessaur. In the video Okwuchi sings on the edge of the park’s Kinder Lake surrounded by glowing orbs, each of which represents 10,000 Americans who have died during the pandemic. After her performance Okwuchi speaks about the resiliency of our city and community.

“The park is a vital place for Houstonians to come together. This past year it’s been even more important as a destination for people to safely rest, relax and enjoy the outdoors,” said Discovery Green Conservancy President Barry Mandel. “As activity and events resume in the park, we felt it was important to acknowledge what we have all been through. We needed a moment of collective catharsis.”
