Joe Biden has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch an offensive in Rafah.

The call between the two politicians came as Israel began an operation on the city - located on the border with Egypt - where more than one million Palestinians were displaced due to widespread destruction in Gaza.

Biden and his top aides have repeatedly told Israeli officials the move will only lead to more death and worsen the despair in the war-ravaged territory.
