The third-seed North Carolina put an end to eighth-seeded NC State's Cinderella run in the 1997 ACC Tournament, defeating the Wolfpack 64-54 to win the championship. Shammond Williams led the Tar Heels with 23 points, six rebounds, and three assists, and he was named the Tournament MVP. Antawn Jamison had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Clint Harrison led NC State with 13 points and five rebounds.
