In the Bengals thrilling victory over the Jaguars last night, Jake Browning and rookie running back Chase Brown got their first real significant NFL opportunities and they didn’t disappoint, being a huge reason why Cincinnati pulled off the upset on Monday Night Football. On just 11 snaps, Chase had 9 carries for 61 yards, and his night was highlighted by a really nice 31 yard run. So, in todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I break down Chase Brown and his new role for the Cincinnati Bengals in order to determine: What will the rest of the season and beyond look like for Chase Brown? What is Chase’s background dating back to high school and college, how good is Chase Brown from a talent evaluation stand point and can he take over Joe Mixon as their new RB1? Chase Brown was born in London, Ontario Canada, and was a standout high school football player in Canada before moving to Florida for his junior and senior season in high school. At his new school in Florida, Chase Brown not only set the schools all time rushing record, but he also set the schools 100m sprint record, being a stand out star in football and track. He then committed to play college football at Western Michigan, then transferred after his freshman season to Illinois, where he spent the past 4 years playing college football at. He had a really nice 2021 season rushing for over 1,000 yards, then had a breakout 2022 campaign which saw him run for over 1,600 yards and 13 total touchdowns. Chase Brown was then selected in the 5th round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he started the season on the inactive list then suffered a hamstring injury which placed him on the IR. Last night against Jacksonville was his first opportunity to play, and he didn’t disappoint showing off his great high end 4.43 40 yard dash speed, along with his nice vision and contact balance.
