In the Middle East, there are reports that talks have intensified toward a ceasefire deal in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages.

A Hamas delegation is in Cairo for talks led by mediators of the United States and Qatar who have reported signs of compromise in recent days.

Questions remain, such as how a planned operation for the southern city of Rafah may factor into all of this.
