'Traveler' is a high performance, composite motorcase, single stage space shot rocket. This 8-inch-diameter, 13 foot tall vehicle is the most advanced rocket ever created by RPL and is the culmination of years of research, testing, and development. It was intended to achieve RPL's founding goal of being the first student group in the world to launch a rocket into space. Named after USC's beloved mascot, Traveler aimed to reach altitudes over 350,000 feet at speeds just under Mach 6.

After 2 years in the hangar, Traveler launched from Black Rock, Nevada on September 21, 2013 at 1807 PDT. 3.5 seconds into flight it experienced a catastrophic failure. Almost every part of the vehicle was retrieved for forensic analysis. Thanks to all of the people responsible for making this launch possible, as well as to all our fans and supporters.
