Firoz Khan and Vinod Khanna appeared together in Dayavan in 1988 after Osho's 'comeback' from the ashram. The friendship of these two started in 1976 with the film Shankar Shambhu, which lasted till the last breath of life. Both the friends also died on the same date, 27 April. Just eight years after the death of Firoz Khan, Vinod Khanna also said goodbye to this world in 2017.Filmmaker director Karan Johar postponed the premiere of his much-awaited film Baahubali 2, saying such screen personalities are rare to see anymore. He had the swag of a superstar.He was the MP of Gurdaspur when he died. The news of his death created a stir in Punjab. The people of Gurdaspur wept because Vinod Khanna not only did politics as a Member of Parliament but also served the people wholeheartedly.Neeraj Malhotra, former chairman of Gurdaspur's 'Improvement Trust', told in an interview to 'The Tribune', how an 'unconfirmed seat' in the railway forced Khanna Sahab to enter politics. Khanna Sahab was producing the film Himalaya Putra in Pathankot, to 'launch' his young son Akshaye Khanna. When he returned to Bombay with his wife Kavita Khanna after 40 days of shooting, he faced a lot of trouble as he did not have a 'confirmed' train ticket.
