We Will Always Miss and Love Queen Harriet

Today makes one year since Queen Harriet flew off and was never seen again. It is an anniversary of an event that no one wanted to happen. At 5:36pm on February 2nd. 2023, Queen Harriet flew off the nest tree presumably to protect the territory and was never seen again. We grieved Queen Harriet and cheered on M15 who was left to raise E21 and E22 on his own.

We would like to honour Queen Harriet, the Matriarch of the nest. This nest tree was Queen Harriet’s home from 2005-2006. The cameras were installed in 2012-2013. Harriet was also observed across the Bay Shore Road prior to 2005. Since the cameras were installed, Harriet successfully raised 17 eaglets and 2 left for M15 to raise on his own from 4 weeks old through , when they were last seen in Season 11. A total of 19 eaglets (all Queen Harriet’s offspring) hatched and successfully left the nest as Juvies. 3 eaglets passed away E3 on 02-02-2014 and E5 on 01-20-2015, which was Queen Harriet and Ozzie offsprings. Ozzie passed away 09-29-2015. E14 passed away on 01-15-2020, which was Queen Harriet and M15 offspring.

Queen Harriet taught M15 to be the great mate that he is still today and now M15 has the role of the teacher. Queen Harriet’s legacy will always be with this nest and now she watches over M15, F23 and E23 along with any future eaglets. The Pritchett’s front gate statues of Queen Harriet and Ozzie are a constant reminder of the original pair of the eagles that brought so many to follow the nest. No other eagle will ever replace Queen Harriet and all she did to help us all learn about the Bald Eagles. We just have a new normal with our new pair of eagles, who and have will continue to teach us in the years to come. Queen Harriet is missed every day, but especially today, one year anniversary of her last day at the nest. Soar high and free Queen Harriet and continue to watch over the nest with Ozzie.
