Lichtspiel Opus I is a 1921 film by Walter Ruttmann:    • Walter Ruttmann
The music, composed especially for the film, is by Max Butting. The copy published on this channel contains the audio track: Duo for Violin and Viola, K.423 1 часть (Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus) by Ivan Dolgunov:https://www.jamendo.com/artist/357807...
The work is very close to the compositional method experienced in those same years by Hans Richter but Ruttmann decides to investigate the possibilities of the animation technique to understand how far the newborn special effects can go in relation to music.
Ruttmann's images, created using the technique of oil painting on glass, are outlined as a visual symphony that dictates the rhythm: they almost totally exclude the presence of a uniform sense and aim, being this an experiment, to "verify" whether this type of composition is suitable for conveying a story.
