Why not make sweet and cheesy bagels alternating during the week as frequently as your cravings prefer!

I’ve seen bagels all over YouTube lately, and I had to get in on the action, making my own super nutritious versions.

Flour exists in my cupboard, but I choose to use spelt flour for my baking instead.

It has a distinctly different flavour and texture from your plain white flour, but I use it for nutritional purposes. Spelt flour (an ancient grain) has similar properties to whole-grain flour. In other words, it’s great for digestion because it’s high in fibre and contains micronutrients such as vitamin E and calcium. Using spelt flour in your baking helps to boost your blood circulation, immune system, and bone health, and of course, as I mentioned before - it’s good for your digestion.

Try spelt flour in a few of your recipes and see what a difference it makes. You may notice a big change if you experience stomach and digestion upsets from white flour.

These small alterations to your cooking may take some time to get used to, but overall, you’re doing your health a favour.

If you want to start using spelt flour in your recipes, then I recommend these brands:

For a larger pack (because you will need it if you bake a lot)

I also used coconut yogurt to boost my probiotic intake. Together, yogurt rich in probiotics and spelt flour makes a powerful gut health-boosting benefit!

I’d love to know what different flavours you’ve come up with.

Here is the recipe

Ingredients

Cheesy Bagels
3 cups of spelt flour
pinch of salt
1 cup of coconut yogurt
enough nutritional yeast to taste

Choc Chip Protein Bagel
3 cups of spelt flour
pinch of salt
1 cup of coconut yogurt
2 tbsp chocolate protein powder
1 tbsp vegan choc chips
1 tbsp rice malt syrup

Tips
Cut and toast them with either vegan butter or some cream cheese
Please put them in the fridge a day after making them, as the yogurt can become rancid quickly
Bake until golden. I had mine on low heat for about 1 hour.
