From VWS: "The cat's out of the bag-- 190 "Redwood Queen" and 650 "Zenith" have a chick! Their egg was due to hatch 5/5, and we confirmed a chick in the nest just hours before the camera feed went live today! As you all know, 190 has many years of nesting experience in this tree, but first-time dad 650 was doing a great job incubating and caring for their new chick today (studbook ID to come). We are so thrilled the nest cam is now live -- huge shoutout to Joe and Explore.org for getting it up and running again! The cam is set to turn on around 9am and turn off around 3pm, but keep in mind, we may still experience some gaps in coverage similar to the Big Sur cams as we continue to make improvements to the cam setup. We can't wait to follow along on this chick's journey with you all!"

In this video, Daddy Zenith gives his newly hatched chicks a feeding. Condors feed their chicks regurgitated contents of their crops that can hold up to 4 pounds of food!

Mom: Redwood Queen #190, hatched in LA Zoo in 1998, 25 y.o.
Dad: Phoenix #650, hatched in LA Zoo in 2012, 12 y.o.
Chick hatched around 5/5/2024.

Redwood Queen lost her mate of 14 years, Kingpin #167, in the Dolan Fire of 2020. She paired with Phoenix #477 in 2021. Sadly, Phoenix disappeared in 2023.
