Evenings are the worst part of Florida’s day. It’s usually quiet at her aged care home and sometimes she hears neighbours sobbing “because they’re lonely”. To keep her own loneliness at bay, Florida sticks to a busy schedule. The 74-year-old volunteers four days a week at Sydney mailroom Beehive Industries. Siobhan Marin discovers how it gives the “Beehivers” – like Florida – a sense of purpose, a place for connection, and healthy, home-cooked meals.
