A wishing well is a term from European folklore to describe wells where it was thought that any spoken wish would be granted. The idea that a wish would be granted came from the idea that water housed deities or had been placed there as a gift from the gods. The practice is thought to have arisen because water is a source of life, and was often a scarce commodity.

"I toss my pain with my wishes in a wishing well."

Wishing Well is the fourteenth track on Juice WRLD's posthumous album, Legends Never Die, and it seems to predict the tragic fate he suffered when he died on December 8, 2019 of drug overdose. Wishing well is not just a hit song, it is a powerful, stark cry for help from a young artist struggling with addiction.
