“All Nightmare Long” has an extremely interesting story. It predated St. Anger in the form of “Shadows of the Cross” from the 2001 Presidio recordings. This song was supposed to be on St. Anger, but was rejected. Robert Trujillo later created riffs while he was playing flamenco guitar riffs, and these riffs made it to the final song as well. There was also this song called “The New Song” recorded in 2006, and parts of it would be salvaged to make “All Nightmare Long.”

I highly suggest you look up and listen to the 2007 demo of All Nightmare Long called “Flamingo,” because it was very different and I personally even like it better than the final product.

Not a meme, but an interesting recount of Metallica history.
