George Lake is another mile beyond Upper Twin Lake and another climb of about 1,000’. So, in round numbers George Lake is 10 miles round trip and 2,000 of gain from the trailhead at Badger Flat on the Kaiser Pass Road. I was out for 7 hours total.
I got an early start at 5:30am and beat the two road construction crews that had flagmen and pilot cars. The morning was cooler (it was actually 31degrees Fahrenheit as I drove over Tamarack Creek).
I did not see any game this time either. This early, both Lower and Upper Twin Lakes were flat and reflective. The mosquitoes must have had a fresh hatch because they were abundant. Being the Friday of July 4th weekend, there were plenty of campers at Upper Twin Lake.
I think George Lake is the prettiest of the three lakes and sits below Kaiser Peak which is only partly visible. There are nice established campsites by the lake. I was back at the trail head in the same amount of time it took me to get to George Lake. The climb back up to Potter Pass inbound is demoralizing on tired old legs. As you return from George Lake to Upper Twin Lake, pay attention to the Sierra Nevada mountains on your right that you probably didn’t notice outbound.
I again used my Sony A1 camera, 85mm 1.8 lens and 16-35mm lens.
