Over the last 20 years, projects such as GOD, Techno Animal and Ice (all with Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick), King Midas Sound (alongside Roger Robinson and Kiki Hitomi) and some of his latest work with Miss Red and Dylan Carlson of Earth have seen Martin assimilate myriad musical styles – dub, reggae, punk, jazz, hip-hop, dancehall and dubstep, to name a few – and transform them into something truly unique. The one constant across his expansive output is weight: a weight of volume, of bass, of emotion. It's an approach and a philosophy that’s informed just as much by punk as it is by the legendary London soundsystems of Jah Shaka and Aba Shanti-I.
