The USA will kick off the 2024 election marathon this week. The country’s voters, it appears, are largely uninterested in hearing a positive message, or in believing good news when it’s right in front of them.

Unemployment is at its lowest levels since the 1960s, the rate of inflation is a third of what it was 18 months ago, and the overall economy is growing at its fastest pace since 2021. Yet two-thirds of Americans actually say the economy has been getting worse, and they are disinclined to believe President Biden when he touts good economic news. Indeed, in the most recent Wall Street Journal poll last month, half of the nation’s voters say Biden’s policies have hurt them personally.
