A Tuesday morning home invasion in the upscale Newport Beach area of Orange County, just south of Los Angeles, ended in an apparent suicide according to police.

The homeowner opened fire on two suspects who broke into the home. One suspect was taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. Officials believe the second suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in an apparent suicide.

Investigators believe this was a targeted attack with the family knowing at least one of the suspects. However a motive is still unknown.
