Jordi Savall's first musical memories go back to his childhood, to his mother's love transmitted in lullabies. He learned to sing in the school choir, but it was when he heard Mozart's Requiem that he decided to dedicate himself to music. With the savings from his job in a textile factory he bought his first cello, with which he started self-taught. It was the discovery of old scores by M. Marais, F. Couperin, A. Forqueray, etc., which made him change the cello for the viola da gamba. Together with his wife Montserrat Figueras, who died in 2011, he has dedicated his professional career to rescue and update early music, with the aim of vindicating its modernity.
