The original title of the Sukiyaki song by Kyu Sakamoto is "Ue o Muite Arukou" 上を向いて歩こう, and it was released in 1961 in Japan. It reached the top of the Billboard charts in the US in 1963. The title "Sukiyaki" is the name of a Japanese hot pot dish and has nothing to do with the meaning of the song.
One of the fun ways to learn a language is to learn from a song! As you sing along, you naturally learn some vocabulary, and train your listening comprehension and pronunciation.
That's why I want to introduce you to this Japanese song, 上を向いて歩こう(うえをむいてあるこう)Ue o Muite Arukou by Kyu Sakamoto.
The melody is catchy and easy to remember. The lyrics are simple yet written beautifully in Japanese, so I think it is perfect for a beginning learner to sing along.
