In this video we show the procedure for an "Air Start" of engine #1 of an Airbus A320 while parked at the terminal gate.

"Air Starts" occur when the plane's auxiliary power united (APU) is inoperable. The aircraft cannot start its engines when the APU is not operable.

These types of "air starts" are rare and require a lot of safety procedures due to the extreme danger of having one of the jet engines running so close to the terminal gate and near ramp workers.

Prior accidents that have claimed the lives of ramp works have occurred in other airports during an "air start" when ramp worker went too close to the "ingestion zone" and were sucked into the engine.

You will notice the "wing-walkers" and the rest of the crew and working to make everyone aware that there is a jet engine running near the terminal.
