Series: Moving Images Relating to Hydroelectric and Wind Power, 1949 - 1985
Record Group 305: Records of the Bonneville Power Administration, 1936 - 2006

Production Date: 1949

Scope & Content: This film tracks the Federal program for the development of the Columbia River and its tributaries. Folk singer Woody Guthrie's voice and original music accompany scenes that examine how the economic depression of the 1920s and its resultant unemployment, the westward movement of migrant workers, and the industrial needs of a country engaged in a world war combined to produce the harvesting of the Columbia's energy and the Grand Coulee Dam.
