A slice of Italy in Southern California OR just another italian spot?

In reviewing Forettis, a restaurant in Corona Del Mar, I had to think about a lot of different things. Forettis is known for its Italian food and especially its wood-fired pizzas. The place has its own style, with an open kitchen and being close to the beach. But the old-fashioned decor and tight seating took away from the vibe.

The service was okay but nothing special. It felt routine and didn't have that extra something that makes a meal out feel special. This kind of thing matters more than you'd think in how you remember a restaurant.

The food was a mixed bag. The Margherita DOP pizza was great, with top-notch ingredients from Naples. But the '50/50 Pasta' and the Caesar salad were just alright, not on the same level as the pizza. This showed me that not all their dishes are equally good.

The Tiramisu was another high point. It was fresh and just sweet enough, clearly made right there in the restaurant. This showed they really care about some parts of their menu.

When I put it all together – the food, the service, and the feel of the place – I liked the pizza and the Tiramisu, but the rest didn't really impress me. The place just doesn't stand out among other restaurants. The service was too basic and the place needs a new look. Would I go back? Maybe for a pizza to go, but not to sit down and eat, because there are better places around.
