A Northern Nurse Describes the Death of a Southern Lieutenant After Gettysburg

Nurse Georgiana "Georgy" Woolsey and her mother, Jane, arrived in Gettysburg to care for injured soldiers from the recent battle. For three weeks in July 1863, they worked to alleviate the sufferings of their patients, and for those who were beyond help gave comfort in their final moments. One of those who did not survive was Lt. Henry Josiah Rauch of the 14th South Carolina Infantry. His brother, Corp. Samuel Noah Rauch, was captured during the battle. Here's the poignant story.
