The Babyface masked killer is revealed to be a double of Ryan (Phi Vu) who warns Tree (Jessica Rothe) & her friends that the reactor they've built is responsible for the "Groundhog Day" style time-loops that they have been stuck in.

From Happy Death Day 2U (2019): Tree Gelbman is the survivor of a time loop in which she was repeatedly murdered by a sadistic killer. However, when she finds herself in the same situation again, she sets out to stop it for good.
