The Bárðarbunga earthquake might be a very interesting part of a larger story that involves widespread land uplift by Europes largest glacier, Vatnajokull. It sits on Iceland's hot spot where Iceland's mother of all volcanoes has been rumbling ever since the 2014 eruption.
