"This Wheel's on Fire" wasn't released on record prior to this live taping: original bassist Chris Hillman had just quit the band only days before, (on September 15, 1968) and The Byrds was about to enter the studio (in October) to start the recording of "Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde" album.

"Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde" was released on March 5, 1969, which would include the studio version of "This Wheel's on Fire", almost three months before the original broadcast of the show. This live version, however, remains the first time The Byrds recorded the song.

The band's line-up in this performance is Roger McGuinn on guitar and vocals, Clarence White on guitar, John York on bass and Gene Parsons on drums.
