With roughly 250cm of snow every winter and low temperatures that prevent melting, snow removal (and not just snow clearing) is a necessity in Montreal if the city wants to continue operating properly. With 3000 workers and 2200 vehicles, the removal of snow from 10,000 kilometres worth of streets and sidewalks is a major logistical accomplishment, the equivalent distance of Montreal to Belgium and back, and often leaves visiting spectators in awe.
