Opening statements have begun in the murder trial of Karen Read. She is accused of killing her then boyfriend and Boston police officer, John O'Keefe, by hitting him with her SUV and then leaving him for dead in January 2022.

Read is now facing second-degree murder and manslaughter charges for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and then leaving the scene. She has pleaded not guilty.
