Winning a championship is a long road for any athlete but for Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr, it’s been filled with a lot more bumps and stalled with some serious injuries. But through determination and commitment, MPJ has defied odds and became an intricate part of a championship team playing along side one of the best players in the world, Nikola Jokic.

A high school basketball stand out ranked Number 1 in the nation with a direct path to the NBA as a potential number one pick was in question as back surgeries sidelined him and delivered a dark prognosis of not just delving draft stock but possibly never playing again.

MPJ went through three back surgeries since then and some days doesn’t seem at his full potential, but the 1st round pick is no stranger to doubt, and his faith and confidence have kept him motivated since day one.

When MPJ was told by a Clippers doctor pre-draft that his back injury was more severe than they first believed, the former National High School Player of the Year fell from the top of the board to No. 14 where the Nuggets scooped him up.

He went on to become the first player from his draft class’ lottery to win a championship and has cemented himself as a max contract player in the league. Through his Christian faith and devout belief in himself, MPJ describes how the adversity he faced has helped shape the player and man he is today.

And pushing aside the basketball talk, Channing couldn’t wait to get into the important stuff, starting with his light-skin connection to Michael which leads to a conversation about who represents “them” the best, as well as a talk about MPJ’s dating life. The list of guys MPJ and Chan has some surprise names and see where they rank Obama, Steph Curry, Patrick Mahomes and others.

All laughs aside, the basketball phenom is still a bonafide star in the basketball world, and dishes what it’s like to play with the best in the world right now with Jokic and who he really is as a person and how he matches up with Joel Embiid. MPJ also gives his secret to how teams win championships in this era of NBA and that his greatest skill right now is being available and consistency in playing time, as he hasn’t missed a game this season.

As an outspoken and big voice in sports and faith, MPJ dealt with backlash about sharing his opinions in 2020 and decided to use his own voice by creating a platform called Curious Mike, a podcast where he sits with various guests for one on one conversations about pressing cultural topics and issues.
